YouTube is the largest source of video on the Internet, there is no doubt to it. You can find almost anything there. You can find trailers and scenes of movies, games, TV shows, documentaries, you can find product previews and reviews, you can find tutorials and lessons to almost anything, you can find homemade videos, you can find music videos, you can find news, advertisements and many other things. There are probably billions of videos uploaded on YouTube right now. The reason for this outrageous number of videos is that YouTube is free. If you are a user you can upload anything. And whether or not you are registered to YouTube, you can view any videos except those containing adult contents on YouTube. But can you download them?
The answer is yes but you cannot download them directly. YouTube does not support direct download but it does not prohibit download either. So you have to use third party software or add-on or other means to download from YouTube. And you don’t have to be a registered user to do so.
There was an option of adding the word “kiss”, after the “www.” in the URL of the video on YouTube. Then you just press enter and the browser will take you to another page from where you can download that video. That option is no longer available. There are some websites that say that they can download the videos you want if you paste the video URL in the text box in their website. They actually can do that. They do find the link to the video but they are not always successful. There are 5 video quality options in the videos. They are 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p and 1080p. Of course all of the videos do not have them all. Those websites cannot find links to all of the video qualities. And many of those websites charge money for their service. But the question is, why would you pay for something that is already free?
This is what you can do. If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your browser then you can use add-ons that will let you download the YouTube videos. Go to the Tools option where you will find another option Add-ons. If you are using Firefox 5.0 or later then the option is probably under the Firefox Tab with a blue star beside it. Go there and on the search option type “video downloadhelper” or “youtube downloader” and search. A list of options will be shown. Choose from them and click on “Add to Firefox”. After the installation is complete (which will take only seconds as the size of the add-ons are really small) restart the browser and go to YouTube. Go to the video URL you want to download the add-on will find the download link for you.
On Safari browser, you can go to the video page and bring up the Activity Window. Activity window shows all the activities that are going on in a web page. To bring up the Activity window press Ctrl + Alt + A (on Windows) or press Command + A (on Mac). There click on the drop down option beside the youtube page you are viewing. There you will see a lot of activities and on the right hand you will see the size of those activities. Find the activity with the largest size. In almost all the cases that is the video. Double click on it. Safari will download it for you. You can apply the same procedure for Firefox with the Firebug add-on.
